Visualizing First Year Freshman Cohorts Major Change Across Time

This sankey chart shows the Fall-to-Fall Cohort Major flows by School/College.

For best results, please view on a standard computer monitor and click the box from left to right.

    Instructions:
  1. Select the cohort year and starting school/college using the drop-down lists above the chart. The default setting is Cohort Year 2011 and the College of Arts and Sciences.
  2. Each major in your selected school/college is represented by a box on the left-hand side of the chart. Clicking any box in the chart will make that the focus, adjusting the rest of the chart to show the flow into and out of that specific major. Each school/college is a different color, to highlight when students move out of a school/college into a different one.
  3. The counts provided are based on Fall semester Census data. The semesters are labeled F1, F2, F3, F4, F5, to show consecutive enrollment. The school/college code is provided, along with the major description and number enrolled in that semester.

    HH: Health & Human Sciences
    NU: Nursing
    VP: Visual & Performing Arts
  4. The ribbons between the major boxes represent the movement of students from each semester. A tip box will appear when you hover over any individual ribbon which details how many students move from one major to another.
  5. Use the refresh button above the chart to start a new flow.
